The Cinema Effect | New Groove Collective
Friday, November 6 , 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

The ‘New Groove Collective‘ was founded by Rob Farmer in 2023 after the Covid pandemic had put a halt to all live ensembles. The Players are drawn from around the Highlands and are some of the finest musicians in the Jazz and commercial scene in Inverness.
The band covers the entire gamut of the Big Band repertoire from the old favourites, to recent funk creations, Jazz standards and new vocal arrangements. Primarily a concert based ‘project’ band it also has the flexibility in repertoire and sound to do the odd wedding or rowdy pub gig.
Previous projects have included concerts built around the arranger Sammy Nestico (‘Shades of Sammy – 2023), the American band leader and pianist Duke Ellington (Salute to the Duke – 2024) and a 1940’s Themed Program (Tunes from the Roaring 40’s – 2025).
This year we return with a very popular and accessible set of gigs based on music from Film and Television. Well known themes such as Mission Impossible (Mission Impossible), Bare Necessities (Jungle Book) and The Flintstones (The Flinstones) will feature, along with some older numbers such as Night Train (Back to the Future), Gimme Some Lovin’ (Blues Brothers) and Sesame Street (Sesame Street). We will also be featuring our vocalist Catriona Sutherland in some wonderful Jazz standards.
Testimonials:
