Renata Rosa, Brazilian singer, songwriter and rabeca player brings the entrancing sounds of the north-east of Brazil enriched with the subtle influences from the East of Europe, Middle East and North of Africa. Her band play ten and seven-string guitars and percussion characteristic of the Brazilian Pernambuco state. In 2017 her new album Encantações was chosen as one of the Top of the World list in Songlines magazine in the UK. Renata leads a workshop on Tue 7th Aug at 7.30pm – details below.

Singing Workshop – Tue 7th Aug 7.30-9.30pm in the Universal Hall Auditorium.

This workshop will provide an introductory knowledge of the traditional singing from the Northeast
of Brazil. The voice, movement, singing and dance are intrinsically part of each other in the
traditional music from Northeast of Brazil. During the workshop the following elements will be
addressed: The pulse of the voice and the body – the energy of singing  and its reverberations – vocal
polyphonies. You will also learn the traditional dance Ciranda and a song for the dance.
