Mairi Campbell – Meet Me at the Threshold
Thursday, October 5 , 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Mairi Campbell is a pioneering figure in Scottish music, turning heads and hearts with her music. Her solo concert sets range from traditional ballads to contemporary songs and improvisations. Masterfully weaving voice, viola, storytelling and improvisation, audiences are captivated by the power and simplicity of Mairi’s voice, musicianship and stage presence.
Her music is a response to personal stories, cultural concerns and the audience in the room in the moment.
She is the recipient of six national music awards including the Inspiration Award in 2018. In 2019 she was inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame.
Her voice gained worldwide recognition when her version of Auld Lang Syne was placed in the pivotal scene of the blockbuster movie ‘Sex and the City’ in 2008. Director Michael Patrick King said:
“It’s just spectacular because, it’s more emotional than any other version of ‘Auld Lang Syne.’ It’s not quite as sad, it’s more female. It is magical and mystical and emotional and weird”.
Ranging from the tender re-setting of Burns’ ‘Lea Rig’ to the pulsating, rhythmic whirl of ‘The Rough with the Smooth’, this is music to move your heart and your feet.
