Latest news – Hall reopens for film

HALL LATEST EVENTS

On Saturday Dec 5th we will show our first film under Covid restrictions and then review this experiment. Covid prevention measures will include the auditorium being set up for social distancing with a one way system.  Regarding face coverings we will follow the Scottish government guidance namely - it is mandatory to wear face coverings in cinemas, although there are exemptions for certain people and it is a reasonable excuse to remove a face covering when you need to eat and drink. If you wear a face visor/shield you are asked to also wear a face covering as a visor is not considered to offer sufficient protection.

If you are coming as separate bubbles please book your tickets separately. For example if you have 4 tickets in one booking we will sit you all together. Please let us know (via uhallpromo@gmail.com) if you have access issues. If necessary we can seat people on the floor area without having to negotiate steps.

All bookings must be made online and in advance - see the ticket booking link in each listing. You do not need to print out your reference – we will just ask for your name. If you buy 4 tickets (which is the maximum) we would expect you to all sit together without social distancing. It will not be possible to purchase tickets on the door. If you need to contact us about your booking use email and send to uhallpromo@gmail.com

You will notice that ticket prices have gone up due to the small maximum size of the audience, but we are absorbing the ticket booking fee with wegottickets.com so you won't have to pay it. Please note as well that - as per our usual policy - all films will be screened with subtitles.

And please see the details below for the free online event on Friday 13th November with three brilliant local storytellers . The links are there in the write-up

If you cannot watch the video on the night there will be an opportunity from Saturday 14th onwards to watch again here: https://bit.ly/Flow14thOnwards

Peter Vallance regularly tells stories at Celtic Festivals that celebrate the seasons and as his Grandfather ran away to sea at the age of 12 he has always been fascinated by the lure of the ocean. As Artistic Director of Universal Hall he has hosted storytellers such as Stanley Robertson, Sheila Stewart, Laura Simms and Brother Blue.

Carol Scorer is a storyteller, performer, percussionist and teacher born in the North East of England and has lived in the North East of Scotland for the last 26 years. She tells stories from around the world and is particularly interested in the spark of the oral tradition. Her stories are often interwoven with rhythm and music.

Margot Henderson is a Scots Irish poet, storyteller and community artist. Her work weaves together poetry, song and story, celebrating culture, roots and heritage, affirming our belonging to the natural world. She has performed widely in the UK and elsewhere creating performance pieces for festivals, conferences and cultural events including The Wild World Over, Is This It and Tae Absent Friends. She has produced a number of poetry collections and cd’s of poems, songs and stories.
