Winter 2017/18

Details of some of the concerts and films in winter 2017/8 are now posted below - scroll down to reveal.  All films will be £5 entry (one price) and all will have subtitles in English as a policy for this season – even those shot in English. This is to give access to those with some hearing loss and to a sizeable minority in our audience who have English as a second language. But of course we encourage those of you with normal hearing to attend and support this inclusive plan. If you have feedback about this experiment let us know uhallpromo@gmail.com  More details will appear soon of the 2018 season of concerts and public events which start in February 2018. Details of the highly recommended Rich Hall gig are already listed. Rich Hall’s Hoedown (comedy) Thu 22nd Feb 2018, 7.30pm

Thursday, November 9, 2017, 8:00 am - Thursday, February 22, 2018, 5:00 pm

As Rich Hall’s critically acclaimed new show rolls into the Universal Hall, there has never been a better time to be an American comedian in the UK. Hall’s precision dismantling of the tenuous relationship between two countries is as freewheeling and deadly accurate as ever. His BBC Four documentaries, most recently Rich Hall’s Countrier Than You and Rich Hall’s Presidential Grudge Match and BBC Radio 4 series Rich Hall’s (US Election) Breakdown have built him a new legion of followers, as has appearances on Have I Got News For You and QI. But if you’ve only ever seen Hall on TV, you’ve short-changed yourself. The Hoedown begins as a withering dissection of Trump’s America, but ends up being a celebration of Americana. Rich delivers stand-up, improvised ballads, and cracking good musicianship. A hilarious, foot-stomping, good time is to be had by all. Age advice: 14+
