Winter 2017/18

Details of some of the concerts and films in winter 2017/8 are now posted below - scroll down to reveal.  All films will be £5 entry (one price) and all will have subtitles in English as a policy for this season – even those shot in English. This is to give access to those with some hearing loss and to a sizeable minority in our audience who have English as a second language. But of course we encourage those of you with normal hearing to attend and support this inclusive plan. If you have feedback about this experiment let us know uhallpromo@gmail.com  More details will appear soon of the 2018 season of concerts and public events which start in February 2018. Details of the highly recommended Rich Hall gig are already listed. Kathy Bullock (music workshop and performance) Sat 3rd June, 9.30am workshop and 8pm performance

Saturday, June 3, 9:30 am - 10:00 pm

Gospel Singing day workshop and “An evening” with Kathy Bullock
Kathy Bullock has visited The Universal Hall three times before and almost literally raised the roof with her passion, enthusiasm, joy and incredible musicianship. This event is the first stop on a 3 week UK tour. A Professor of Music at Berea College, Kentucky where she has worked for the past twenty-three years, Kathy has earned a Ph.D. and M.A. in Music Theory from Washington University in St. Louis, MO, and a B.A. in Music from Brandeis University, MA. She is an inspirational teacher. All are welcome, no experience necessary – just a willingness to let go into the joy of singing.
The day workshop will be learning and singing a number of African-American gospel songs and may also include something from her African song repertoire. There will be a break for lunch (not provided).
The evening event “An evening with Kathy Bullock” will be an evening of songs for all to sing, as well as a short presentation about the history of Gospel music. Tickets for the day workshop entitle you to free entry to the evening event, tickets for which can be purchased separately.
Workshop 9.30am to 4pm  cost: £50 (£40 concs)
Participatory Performance 8pm  cost: £12 (£10 concs)
